Five Easy Ways to Cut Your Food Bill
It seems to be all that anyone talks about when budgeting comes up; how to cut your shopping bills. We know all the tricks; buy own brand products, don’t fall for uneconomical multi-buy deals, don’t shop hungry etc. What about ways to cut back without too much compromise though? Here are our top five tips.
No. 1 – Swap from fresh to frozen
Fish can be really expensive especially if you are trying to feed a family so why not take advantage of lower priced frozen products? Salmon, Cod, Prawns etc. are all easily available at even the smallest supermarkets.
You can even buy inexpensive seafood mixes for Fish Pies and Soups.

No. 2 – Buy different cuts of meat
Fresh chicken breasts are expensive but actually pretty tasteless in the wrong dish. Chicken legs are much more affordable and can make a casserole much more appetising.
Similarly switching from leg of lamb to lamb shank or pork loin to pork belly can save money with little compromise.

No. 3 – Use what you already have
There are some great websites out there with fantastic recipes tailored around what you already have in your cupboards.
For people on a really tight budget try Jack Monroe’s website.
She has dishes that cost from just 10p each.
No. 4 – Make your food last longer
Food lasts a lot longer than you think as long as it has been stored correctly. We’re all guilty of leaving things at the bottom of the fridge and forgetting about them so make sure you store things properly as soon as they are unpacked.

No. 5 – Make a packed lunch!
If you think about what you spend in cash each day your lunch is probably your biggest expense on a normal day-to-day basis. By planning ahead and making your lunch each day to take to work a working couple could save up to £4,000 a year. That’s a lot of money that is very easily saved. You will also avoid the temptation of more purchases if you don’t need to go to the shops for your lunch.
