Their loans involved fixed weekly repayments, and the amount agreed with the customer’s agent never went up.

Greenwood Personal Credit was founded in 1877 and bought by Provident in 1977 trading under the name of Greenwood Personal Credit offering doorstep loans.
The Greenwood name was then completely replaced by Provident, but the Provident business was closed on 31st December 2021.
A. They provided doorstep loans (sometimes known as home credit cash loans).
‘Doorstep’ and ‘Home Credit’ loans are different names for the same thing – a small personal cash loan delivered to your door by a representative, and weekly re-payments then picked up by the representative too.
They had the advantage of all being in cash, and delivered and picked up from your door, hence the name doorstep loans.

They always made sure the cost of the loan repayments did not change, so the borrower always knew exactly where they were with their unsecured loan repayments.
